Upgrading existing buildings to reduce energy and water consumption is key to delivering sustainable cities and reducing operational costs.  It is great to see that this month City of Sydney announced a set of grants to improve energy and water performance.

The funding supports building owners, managers and tenants in the City of Sydney Local Government Area to identify and implement improvement works including:

  • Direct grants of up to $10,000 to undertake a NABERS, Earth Check or Green Star performance rating and develop a building improvement action plan – with a requirement for the recipient to commit to investing a minimum amount of their own funds (half of the amount awarded by the City) to implement cost-effective opportunities identified.
  • Direct grants of up to $12,000 to undertake an energy audit of an existing building – with a requirement for the recipient to commit to investing a minimum amount of their own funds (half of the amount awarded by the City) to implement cost-effective opportunities identified.
  • Direct grants of up to $20,000 (matched with 25% contribution from the applicant) to undertake feasibility studies in support of implementing an innovative project relating to any of: renewables, low carbon energy, energy efficiency, waste and water
  • Direct grants of up to $80,000 (matched with 50% contribution from the applicant) to undertake feasibility studies in support of implementing an innovative project relating to any of: renewables, low carbon energy, energy efficiency, waste and water
